What is Exemestane (Aromasin)?

Exemestane (Aromasin), also known as 6-methylenandrosta-1, 4-diene-3, 17-dione, is a steroidal aromatase inhibitor (AI) used to treat, prevent and manage breast cancer in both pre and post-menopausal women. It is a white crystalline powder and when taken orally, is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream. The half-life of Aromasin is approximately 24 hours, meaning it takes around 24 hours for half of a dose to be eliminated from the body.

Aromasin works by selectively inhibiting the enzyme aromatase, thereby preventing the conversion of androgens such as testosterone into estrogens – estradiol being most prevalent. Estrogens, as we know, can be a primary cause of breast cancer in both pre and post-menopausal women. By inhibiting estrogen production, Aromasin can have a powerful impact in terms of not only breast cancer management, but prevention as well. To note, Aromasin has an anti-estrogenic effect and as such can be combined with other therapies and/or medications to better manage the cancer.

Prescription:

In the United States, Aromasin is a prescription-only medication and is available in 25, 50, or 125 mg strength tablets. Aromasin is a powerful medication and should be used only as directed by a healthcare professional.

Pharmacology:

Aromasin has a high affinity for the aromatase enzyme and binds to it, causing a decrease in the amount of estrogen produced. Despite this, plasma estradiol concentrations remain at normal range as the metabolism normally seen in the body has occurred. Aromasin also has very low affinity to progesterone and androgen receptors – this means it does not interfere with the normal functioning of hormones in the body.

Interactions:

Before taking Aromasin, it is important to tell your physician or healthcare provider of all current medications and supplements you are taking, as many can interact negatively with Aromasin. Those taking oral contraceptives should not take Aromasin, as it can take more than twice as to reduce their effectiveness. Likewise, those taking an anticoagulant (such as warfarin), hormonal therapy, chemotherapy, and anti-depressants should tell their physician before taking Aromasin.

Precautions:

Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not take Aromasin, as it can affect both mother and child. Additionally, those with liver disease, kidney disease, bone disorders, heart disease, and hypertension should notify their physician prior to taking Aromasin.

Uses:

Aromasin is typically prescribed for the treatment, prevention, and management of breast cancer in women. In the case of treatment, Aromasin is generally prescribed in combination with other treatments such as radiation, chemotherapy or other hormonal therapy. For prevention, Aromasin is generally prescribed for women with a high risk of breast cancer, or those with a history of the disease.

Dosage:

Aromasin is available in 25, 50, and 125 mg tablets and is typically prescribed to start with a dose of 25 mg, taken once daily, either with food or without. Your healthcare provider may prescribe a higher dosage depending on your body weight, medical history, and other factors.

Half-Life:

Aromasin has an unusually long half-life of approximately 24 hours, meaning that it takes 24 hours for half of a dose to be eliminated from the body – this is why it is typically taken once daily and is not linked with an increased risk of hormone-related adverse reactions such as hot flashes or night sweats.

Cycle:

Aromasin is often cycled with other AIs such as letrozole and anastrozole to allow for risk mitigation in terms of adverse reactions. This cyclic use is especially relevant for those using Aromasin in bodybuilding and physique enhancement contexts, as the hormones and moods associated with the medication can cause swings and depressions over long period of uses.

Overdose:

While it is always important to abide by the recommended dosage of your healthcare provider, it is possible to overdose on Aromasin – symptoms of an overdose can include nausea, confusion, fatigue, and dizziness. In such cases, it is important to seek immediate medical assistance.

Legal:

In the United States, Aromasin is a prescription-only medication, meaning that it requires a prescription from a healthcare provider for purchase. It is also broadly available in other countries and can be legally purchased online or in a pharmacy.

Benefits:

For those being treated for or at risk of breast cancer, the benefits associated with Aromasin are clear. It is able to prevent estrogen-related breast cancer, or reduce its progression in those who are currently being treated. Aside from its clear medical uses, Aromasin does also feature in bodybuilding, physique enhancement, and other sporting contexts.

Results:

When used to treat or manage breast cancer, Aromasin is capable of slowing progression and prolonging progression-free survival. It is also credited with reducing recurrence of the disease in study participants. It is the only drug approved by the FDA to reduce the risk of breast cancer in pre-menopausal women with an inherited gene variant (BRCA1 and BRCA2).

Side Effects:

As with any medication, Aromasin can also come with some side effects. These side effects can include hot flashes, fatigue, headache, nausea, insomnia, joint and/or muscle pain, and depression. More serious side effects are rare, but can include blood clots, stroke, and allergic reactions.

Bodybuilding:

In bodybuilding, physique enhancement, and other sports contexts, Aromasin can be used to reduce estrogen "aromatization" – the conversion of androgens, such as testosterone, into estrogen. This can lead to leaner, harder gains and can also mitigate some of the side effects associated with high levels of estrogen in the body, such as water retention.

Reviews:

Reviews of Aromasin for both medical and sporting contexts are generally very positive – many report a high rate of success and notable increase in quality of life. Of course, it is important to consult a physician prior to starting a cycle as well as to stay within the recommended dosage as excessive doses can lead to adverse reactions.

US Domestic Shipping:

In the United States, Aromasin can be legally obtained with a prescription from your doctor. Aromasin is also widely available online for US domestic delivery, however, it is important to ensure you make your purchase from a reputable vendor – there are many counterfeit versions being sold in the market.

Stacking:

As Aromasin works to inhibit estrogen production and can also reduce water retention, it is often stacked with cutting agents such as Clenbuterol, T3, and Winstrol. Stacking Aromasin with these agents can lead to harder, more defined gains and is generally considered to be the best way of taking advantage of its qualities.

Brand Names:

Aromasin is sold under several brand names, including Xtane, Exemestan, and Aromadex. No matter the brand, all formulations feature the same active ingredient and have the same intended use and dosage recommendation.

In conclusion, Aromasin is a powerful aromatase inhibitor proven to reduce the risk and progression of breast cancer in both pre and post-menopausal women and can also be used in context of bodybuilding and physique enhancement.

It is important to remember however, that Aromasin is a powerful medication and should be used only as directed by your healthcare professional. As it has an unusually long half-life and is prescribed once daily, side effects can build up over time, so it is important to be aware of these and take the necessary precautions.
